We are excited to welcome Matt Shively, also known as "Blind Man Matt," to Glenwood School on Thursday, October 22, at 9:15 a.m. for a special Disability Awareness Month assembly.
Matt is a motivational speaker, storyteller, and proud grandfather who has spent nearly four decades inspiring audiences across the United States and Canada.
Despite being completely blind and hearing impaired due to Usher Syndrome Type II, Matt approaches life with humor, determination, and an incredible can-do attitude! He's even an avid woodworker who enjoys creating projects using power tools!
Through personal stories, laughter, and meaningful conversations, Matt will encourage our students to embrace their differences, persevere through challenges, treat others with kindness, and recognize their own potential.
His message is simple but powerful: Our challenges do not define us, and our abilities extend far beyond our limitations. One of Matt's favorite sayings sums up his outlook on life: "I'm not handicapped. I'm handy-capable!"
Families and community members are warmly invited to attend!
We look forward to welcoming Matt and sharing this meaningful experience with our students, families, and community!
