There is a lot to be excited about for our local youth at Glenwood School this year! We are thrilled to welcome Del Medenbach as our new Industrial Arts teacher and to expand the hands-on learning opportunities available to students right here in our small community.
Beginning in 4th grade, students will have opportunities to learn, design, create, build, problem-solve, and discover skills and interests that can stay with them long after they leave the classroom. This year, Mr. Medenbach will teach:
Elementary Shop | Grades 4–5
Middle School Shop
Artistic Expression | High School
Metals | High School
Construction | High School
And our students will be learning from someone with a tremendous depth of experience! Mr. Medenbach is beginning his 10th year teaching Industrial Arts and has taught woodworking, metalworking, computer-aided design, construction technology, and electronics. Before becoming an Industrial Arts teacher, he taught 5th and 6th grade for seven years, including two years in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. He also brings real-world experience into the shop. Mr. Medenbach and his family recently completed construction of a new home that they built largely themselves.
Industrial Arts is about much more than learning how to use tools. Students learn to take an idea from “I wonder if I could…” to “Look what I made!” Along the way, they develop creativity, perseverance, problem-solving, confidence, and practical skills, while also being introduced to pathways that can lead to rewarding careers.
For a small, rural school, being able to provide this range of hands-on learning opportunities for our youth is something worth celebrating. We are excited to see what our Eagles imagine, design, create, and build this year, and we are delighted to welcome Mr. Medenbach to the Glenwood community!
